Melnyk’s direct speech: “We often hear the argument that in order to achieve a stable peace, justice should be set aside, or at least not overemphasized,” because, they say, “bringing the perpetrators to justice could complicate negotiations and jeopardize peace.”

He cited the examples of the Nuremberg and other tribunals, which confirm that justice contributes to the end of violence and ensures stability.

He emphasized that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is accompanied by numerous atrocities against the civilian population in the occupied territories. Mass killings, particularly in Buch, forced deportations, torture and sexual violence are part of a targeted pattern and clearly qualify as crimes against humanity.

Melnyk also drew attention to targeted strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

According to him, Russia’s actions left millions of civilians without electricity, heating and water supply, plunging entire cities into cold and darkness. Postpred emphasized that all those guilty of the crime of aggression, crimes against humanity and war crimes should be brought to justice.

Melnyk’s direct speech: “There can be no selective justice and immunity.”
