From December 26, 2023, he temporarily performs the duties of the director of the legal department of the agency, and the day before he stopped his legal activities. It drew increased attention because of his past cooperation with Medvedchuk, who has been charged with treason and other crimes.
The order dated December 26 on assigning Bohdan Koval the duties of the head of the legal department was signed by acting Yaroslav Maksymenko, head of ARMA.
On the same day, Koval wrote an application to suspend the right to practice law. This is evidenced by the data from the register of lawyers received by Glavkom.
Koval received a lawyer’s license in 2020, and in May 2021 he appeared in court in defense of Medvedchuk. Among the assets currently under ARMA’s control are the former MP’s property, including the impounded Royal Romance yacht.
Koval’s appointment underscores the importance of ensuring legal control over assets that have been obtained through criminal means, and may signal new changes in public policy in this area.
