The screening process of Ukrainian legislation for compliance with the EU legislation is completed and in the near future the European Commission hopes to open negotiations on the first cluster. This was reported by the European Commissioner for Martha Kos Extension, visiting Transcarpathia.

“Being in Transcarpathia today, I start my three -day visit to Ukraine. This is very symbolic, because today we have completed the screening process of the legislation of Ukraine, compared it with the legislation of the European Union. It was a very impressive job, ”Martha Kos said.

According to her, this process was carried out in less than one year – over 100,000 pages of legislation were elaborated.

“I very much hope that in the near future we will be able to open negotiations about the first cluster and get green light from the Ukrainian Council,” Martha Kos said, adding that the results of screening will be discussed during meetings in Kiev the day after tomorrow.

During her visit, she also visited the Slovak and Hungarian schools. She stressed that the issue of national minorities is one of the key negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU. These issues are included in the first and last cluster of negotiations.

Kos noted that Transcarpathia is a real European region, where Hungarians, Slovaks, Czechs and Poles live with Ukrainians. And for every EU Member State, the issue of national minorities is extremely important.

Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko in August stated that Ukraine, together with the European Union, will carry out an official analysis of compliance with the Ukrainian legislation by the EU by the end of the year and will be ready to open negotiations on accession for all six clusters.

The EU has 35 heads that are grouped into six clusters that need to be closed in order to become a block member. Six clusters are the foundations (fundamental spheres), the domestic market, competitiveness and inclusive growth, green agenda and sustainable connection, resources, agriculture and cohesion, external relations.

When the country unifies its legislation by all these parameters, and it is recognized by all 27 EU members, then the country is given good for EU membership after the ratification process by all Member States.
