On July 22, the Verkhovna Rada supported the Law No. 12414, which, as it was reported, limits the independence of NABU and SAP. 263 MPs voted in favor. After that, NABU Chairman Semen Krivonos urged the President of Ukraine to veto the bill, since the independence of two institutions is “actually destroying”.

The decision of the Parliament was disconnected to the protests of hundreds of people in Kiev, Lviv, Dnipro and Odessa.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed Law No. 12414 and stated that NABU and SAP will work, but they should be “cleared of Russian influences”.

This happened after 70 searches conducted on July 21 by the SBU, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Prosecutor General’s Office against the Bureau staff. The SBU, among other things, reported the detention of NABU employee, who, according to the department, was spying for the Russian special service. He was presented with suspicion.
