“He’s kept so many promises that he’s made. There’s one promise left that he can keep: to be an interim figure. He can step down as president within the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris the president of the United States. He could free her from having to watch on a transition period until January 6 – her own defeat,” Simmons said.
The publication notes that there is no indication that Harris is demanding a corresponding decision from Biden, and her team did not immediately respond to a request for comment. That being said, according to Simmons, “this is going to dominate the news at a time when Democrats are going to have to learn drama and transparency and do what we want to see”:
“This is a moment for us to change the perspective of how Democrats work.”
Simmons added that the move would not only prevent the next woman running away from “the historic role of being the first female president,” but would also disrupt some of President-elect Donald Trump’s merchandise, which reads “45-47” in reference to Trump being 45 and the 47th president.
“Biden should resign and make Kamala Harris the first woman president. That would change Trump,” Simmons later wrote on the social network.
