Russian strikes in Ukrainian cities, including Sumy, make American politicians doubt Russia’s interest from Russia. This statement in Kiev was made on April 14 by Senator-Democrat Tim Kane, Radio Liberty correspondent reports.

“I looked at the latest actions on this issue, including Russia, and it makes me skeptical about their behavior. I am very interested in ceasing the fire. The US would like that. Europe would like. Ukraine deserves a ceasefire. Events, including yesterday’s blow, make me doubt the integrity of Russian interest in ceasing fire. But I hope I’m wrong and they have to show that I’m wrong. Having demonstrated a true interest in achieving the ceasefire, ”he stressed.

Tim Kane also added that this trip to Ukraine is not two -party because it was organized in the last minute.

On April 13, at about 10:15, the Russian military struck two missile strikes in the center of Sumy. Subsequently, the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak said that Russian troops used a rocket with cassette ammunition. According to the latest data, 35 people were killed due to the attack, including two children. 120 people sought medical help: 105 adults and 15 children.

In recent weeks, there have been several meetings, telephone calls between Ukraine and the US, also separately between the Russian Federation and the US on ceasefire in the war of Russia against Ukraine.

In particular, on March 11, US representatives managed to obtain from Ukraine consent to a 30-day truce. Russian President Putin did not reject this idea, but put forward his conditions.

On April 11, the US Presidential Specialist Steve Witcoff held a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The negotiations lasted more than four hours.

The Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the parties would discuss “various aspects of Ukrainian settlement”, and the Kremlin intends to convey “basic elements of the position and concern of Russia” directly to US President Donald Trump.
