“The next meeting of the “coalition of the determined”, which is planned to be held at the beginning of January, should allow to complete the planning of the security guarantees that we will provide to Ukraine,” the interlocutor of “EvroPravda” specified.
He said that according to the results of the negotiations, as of now, security guarantees will consist of three lines of defense.
The first line of security guarantees – a powerful Ukrainian army, which will stand on the front flank of the defense, and the long-term support that the “coalition of the determined” will provide to the armed forces of Ukraine to deter Russia from a new attack.
The second line of security guarantees is the presence in Ukraine of the armed forces of the states of the “coalition of the determined” as a strategic signal of support for the Ukrainian army. Also, the Western military will be located outside of Ukraine, with possible redeployment of forces if necessary.
“For the military from the states of the “coalition of the determined”, it is not a question of participating in battles, nor of monitoring the ceasefire,” the representative of the French president’s office emphasized.
He added that monitoring of the cease-fire will obviously be carried out remotely with the help of technical means of observation.
The third line of security guarantees (backstop)according to a French official, will be based on guarantees provided by the United States in particular, which are “simplistically called an Article 5 NATO-type formula.” This should ensure that if Russia resumes the war, it will deal not only with Ukraine, but also with all its allies, including the United States.
“The next meeting of the “coalition of the determined” should complete the process of formulating security guarantees,” the interlocutor of “European Pravda” emphasized.
He added that these security guarantees are currently at the stage of discussion between Europeans, Ukrainians and Americans, in particular at the level of chiefs of staff.
As “Evropeyska Pravda” reported, earlier on December 26, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the 20-point plan for a peaceful settlement of the war unleashed by the Russian Federation against Ukraine is already 90% ready.
It will be recalled that on December 24, Zelensky for the first time revealed the content of the 20-point “peace plan” agreed with the United States, which, in particular, states that Ukraine does not agree to the demand to renounce NATO membership.
In addition, the draft peace agreement does not provide for the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation by the US, but Washington intends to gradually do so after the end of the war.
