The head coach of the Romanian national team, Mircea Lucescu, who previously worked in Ukraine with Shakhtar, recalled the conflict with ex-miner star Douglas Costa that occurred after one of the Champions League matches.

“Another time I had a conflict with a Brazilian, with Douglas Costa. We played a match with Zenit, lost 0:1 (obviously, we are talking about the match of the group stage of the 2011/12 Champions League, in which the Miners failed, taking the last place in the quartet with Cypriot APOEL, Zenit and Porto – ed.), and after the game the football players, many of whom were only 19-20 years old, laughed and joked… I was very angry. I went up to them and said: “Guys, did you win?” And here he is [Дуглас Коста] assumed a boxing stance, turning his fists towards me.”

“It seems that he was afraid that I would do something to him, so I withdrew and the next day I spoke to him and told him that it was my fault because I should not have reacted like that at that moment. I told him: it is very easy for me to send you to the second team and leave you there for a year, but I will not do that, because I will do it against football. Douglas Costa was very talented,” Lucescu said.

Earlier, Lucescu surprised by calling the ex-protégé of Galatasaray and Beşiktaş the most talented football player among those with whom he managed to work.
