On Tuesday, November 12, the Seimas of Lithuania voted to denounce the customs cooperation agreement with Belarus, which was signed almost two decades ago.

As European Truth informs, this is reported by LRT.

93 deputies voted for the proposal, two abstained.

According to the Ministry of Finance of Lithuania, which prepared the proposal, the customs authorities of Lithuania and Belarus have not cooperated and have not exchanged information since the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine in February 2022, therefore it is advisable to denounce the document.

As noted in the department, trade and economic cooperation with Belarus is completely suspended and impossible. Moreover, persons who trade with Belarus are obliged to present to the customs authorities and courts of Lithuania evidence of the legality of their trade and compliance with international sanctions.

The agreement was signed in Vilnius in July 1996 and ratified by the governments of both countries in 2000.

We will remind, at the beginning of October, Lithuania denounced three international agreementswith Russia and Belarus concerning economic cooperation.

In June, Lithuania denounced the treaty with Russia about legal aid. In April, a similar agreement was signed with the Russian Federation Estonia broke up.
