LINGARD – on Korea: “No one touched the food until I started eating”

Culture shock of the ex-player of the England national team”, — write: sport.ua

Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingardwho recently left the location of “Seoul”, talked about his experience of life in South Korea.

“The local cuisine is very specific, I even ventured to taste a live octopus. It was moving and it was scary at first, but in the end it was fine.

I have many memories of going to restaurants. One incident, when I had just arrived and went to dinner with young teammates, was particularly memorable.

In their culture, there is a rule: no one begins the meal until the oldest person at the table begins. Their dishes were already brought, and mine was still being prepared – and they just sat in front of the food, not touching it.

I insisted, “Go ahead, my order is about to be delivered.” But they stood their ground: “No, we have no right.” If I hadn’t started eating at all, they would have gone hungry. Such etiquette became a real culture shock for me,” Lingard shared.
