Ukrainians on social networks were outraged by the pro-Russian statements of People’s Deputy Yury Boyk and the inaction of the Security Service of Ukraine. Oleksandr Leonov, executive director of the Penta Center for Applied Political Research, told Radio NV how dangerous it is and what to do about it.
— Let’s talk about a fresh tiktok hero. People’s deputy Yuriy Boyko posted a video in which he used the classic OPZZh repertoire – about radicals, and about demolished monuments, and about renaming cities, the ban “native language”. Accordingly, a lot of anger and surprise immediately appeared on social networks, because the OPZZH party is banned in our country, but suddenly it turns out that such a message is not only not banned, but this deputy is still active and is probably preparing for the elections. What do you see behind this story?
— Evidently, against the background of talks about the elections, Yuriy Boyko is really preparing for the elections, learning new tools. I think he is inspired by the example of his pro-Russian colleague from Romania, where the presidential candidate almost from scratch took first place in the first round [виборів]. And that’s why it’s really dangerous.
This is an event to watch out for. Especially since all this outrage is quite strange. Because I remember that Boyko is still at the beginning of a large-scale invasion (it was the first days of February [2022 року]it seems, on February 25) appeared on the air [російського пропагандиста Володимира] Solovyov with completely pro-Russian narratives. And no one pulled him after that. On the contrary, he feels good in the Verkhovna Rada, votes as he should with his colleagues. I think that’s why they don’t touch him.

It is obvious that here some decisions must be made by the authorities – not to be indignant, but to act, because these are dangerous enough games.
– How can they act? I can quote the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak: “Some politicians forget that protecting Ukraine and defeating Russia, and not spreading Russian narratives, is the key goal now.” But without the former OPZZ, the monomajority of the Servant of the People very often lacks votes. And the biggest criticism of Yermak was that “honors, you yourself have now formed a coalition with these OPZZhshnikas; from what fright are you now indignant, if you, in fact, keep these people in the Council.” How do you see it?
