This will be the area that before the process of decommunization was known as the Hill of Glory, the press service of the Lviv City Council reports.

“Due to the fact that the sector of the Field of Honorable Burials No. 86a is full, a new place has been determined in Lviv for the burial of the fallen defenders of Ukraine. This is an area that before the end of the decommunization process was known as the Hill of Glory. Now it will become the sector of the Field of Honorable Burials No. 87, which is within the boundaries of the Lychakiv Cemetery and is located within walking distance of the current burial site on Mechnikova Street,” the message says.

Yevhen Boyko, head of the executive committee of the Lviv City Council, said that before the decision on the new location was made, they consulted with a large number of people who are not part of the working group.

“I am impressed by the opinion of Myroslav Marynovich, who said that Russia did not privatize this place (the former Hill of Glory) in Lviv, it is Ukrainian land, and it should become a new meaning for the Lviv community,” Boyko added.

The representative of the NGO “Family of Fallen Heroes of Lviv Region” Viktoriya Rodych, who lost her husband and brother in the war, noted that she was on a visit to the location and supports the choice.

“We see and understand that the war continues, unfortunately, we understand that it is not the end. We were at the place on the way out. It is good that it is nearby near the current field,” the woman said.

Lack of places for military burials at the Lychakiv cemetery in LvivOn November 18, the Lviv City Council reported that there were only 20 free places left in the Field of Honorable Burials at the Lychakiv Cemetery.

They noted that soon the city will present a new site where soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine will be buried.
