Kyiv continues to work not only with neighboring countries, but with a wider range of partners in order to build a coalition that will support the decision to shoot down Russian drones and missiles in Ukrainian airspace. This was announced by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Tykhy, during a briefing, the correspondent reports UNN.

“As for the downing of missiles and drones in Ukrainian space, it is Ukraine’s position that remains unchanged, that a solution is needed that will allow neighboring countries, not only Poland, but neighboring countries to use their different air defense means to shoot down missiles and drones in Ukrainian space. As few missiles as possible and drones heading in the direction of these countries, and this is logical,” Tykhi said.

He stated that Ukraine believes that this, first of all, strengthens the security of these countries.

“If they can shoot down missiles that threaten their airspace before it enters it, it seems to me to be in the national interests of this country itself. Secondly, according to international law, this is neither escalation nor participation of the country in war, if it shoots down a missile or a drone. We believe that this is a humanitarian action – to shoot down missiles and drones over Ukraine that fly into people, infrastructure,” said Tykhi.

He also noted that Ukraine understands that only the decisions of neighboring countries are not enough for this decision.

“We have already expressed a warning at the level of the Alliance (NATO – ed.) that this should be a broader decision supported by a larger number of countries. We understand this and continue to work not only with neighboring countries, but also with a wider range of partners in order for the coalition to build support for this decision, this work is ongoing,” said Tykhiy.

The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry, Radoslaw Sikorski, stated in an interview with the British daily Financial Times that “Poland and other countries bordering Ukraine are obliged to shoot down Russian missiles before they enter their airspace.”

In October, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is working with allies to shoot down Russian missiles over the country, but they are not ready yet.
