Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested (Picture: Getty) British-Canadian star Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested after allegedly physically assaulting and threatening a rideshare driver.
The incident took place just after midnight on Monday in Hollywood, with the Los Angeles Police Department confirming in a statement that he ‘entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats’.
The victim was not injured during the altercation, which took place at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood and is now being investigated by LAPD’s Hollywood Division.
The 59-year-old actor – and son of later actor Donald Sutherland – is best known for his roles in the long-running show Designated Survivor, as Jack Bauer in 24 and the 2008 horror movie Mirrors.
The Emmy winner was released after paying a bond of $50,000 (£37,000) and is now due to appear in court on February 2.
This is not the actor’s first arrest.

At the time, he was in the middle of a five-year probation in connection with another drink-driving arrest in 2004.
A few years later, in 2009, he was charged with misdemeanour assault in Manhattan, after he reportedly head-butted designer Jack McCollough, but the charge was later dropped.
The pair also released a joint statement in which Sutherland apologised.
Most recently, he was arrested after making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood and failing a field sobriety test in 2020, which had no public outcome.
Sutherland’s reputation among his peers in the industry has also faced disrepute over the years.
The screenstar and musician has been arrested more than once (Picture: Geoff Robinson/Shutterstock) His 24 co-star, Freddie Prinze Jr., once called him ‘the most unprofessional dude in the world,’ claiming that he was asked to remove his shoes during scenes, implying Sutherland was insecure about their height difference.
The Scooby Doo actor’s entire experience on set drove him to almost quit acting.
‘I hated every moment of it. I just wanted to quit the business after that. So, I just sort of stopped,’ he admitted at the time.
At the time, Kiefer’s representative said about Freddie’s experience that ‘this is the first [the actor] has heard of Freddie’s grievances.
They concluded: ‘Kiefer enjoyed working with Freddie and wishes him the best.’
Despite his past, the actor remains booked and busy. Over Christmas, he appeared in the festive movie, Tinsel Town, alongside a star-studded cast featuring Rebel Wilson, Danny Dyer, Katherine Ryan and Jason Manford.
