Photo UNIANPhoto UNIANThe Verkhovna Rada should approve the bill on the purchase of nuclear reactors in Bulgaria as soon as possible, as it is a critical step for the country’s energy security and the development of its industrial potential.

Political speculation around this issue is harming the interests of the state, and accusations of possible corruption risks are unfounded. This was stated by political scientist Petro Oleshchuk, commenting on the discussion of the bill in parliament.

“It is an intergovernmental agreement in which a foreign state – Bulgaria. Speculations on corruption in this matter look frankly absurd, because it means the accusation of Bulgaria of participation in corruption schemes. It is not just a non -sophisticated political manipulation, but also a potential diplomatic problem.” , – Oleshchuk emphasized.

According to him, the completion of two Khmelnitsky NPP units is not just an infrastructure project, but a strategic decision that will provide Ukraine with accessible nuclear energy for a decade.

“We are negotiating with a European country that has excess equipment that is ideal for our grid. So it is logical that it needs to be used instead of buying new reactors at much higher prices or leaving objects unfinished,” the expert explained.

The political scientist stressed that delaying the decision to purchase reactors and the completion of the KhNPP only plays in the hand to those who are interested in maintaining Ukraine’s energy dependence on imports.

“Any blocking of this project is the actual work against the country’s energy independence. Therefore, the faster the decision is made, the better for the economy and industry,” Oleshchuk summed up.
