Kalinina held the first face-to-face confrontation against Garland.

For Angelina, this victory was the first in the 2026 season. Before the start of the major selection in Melbourne, Kalinin lost to Anna Bondar in the qualification of the five-hundredth in Brisbane.

Angelina broke Garland’s five-game winning streak. Last week, Joanna became the champion of the WTA 125 competition in Canberra.

Kalinin is making her seventh appearance on the Australian Open courts. Her best result is the third round of the main draw in 2023.

Angelina will compete with Anouk Kovermans (Netherlands, WTA 192) in the second round of the AO-2026 selection. Angelina had never played against Anouk before.

Kalinina became the second representative of Ukraine who managed to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Slam this year. Yuliya Starodubtseva did it the day before.

Three sets and 6:0. Starodubtseva successfully started in the Aus Open 2026 selection
