Journalists have established names of 122.8 thousand Russian soldiers who died in Ukraine

The Russian BBC Service, the Media Again, and a team of volunteers who calculate the losses of Russian servicemen by open sources have established names 122,883 of the Russian Federation, which died on the front from the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine.

Journalists invariably indicate that the real loss of the Russian military is much higher – not all deaths report the media and authorities, not all military burials can be calculated by volunteers.

According to August 8, the trends from the autumn of the past do not change much, most often volunteers are killed on the front – 27%, mobilized – 11%and convicted – 14%who left the warfare from the correctional colonies. They make up 53% of the total dead. Before the war, they were not related to the Russian army.

Journalists point out that since October 2023, daily losses rarely fall lower than 120 dead per day from the Russian side. Before that, this figure was wavy, that is, on some days there could be 100-150 confirmed deaths, and in others-about 50-60.

Highly skilled footage is also killed on the front. As of August 8, the authors of the study were aware of the death of 5540 Russian officers, including 12 generals. Among them is Major General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Andriy Golovatsky, sentenced to 8.5 years of colony for receiving bribes from his subordinates.

The Russian edition of “Mediazon” also assesses the excessive mortality of the Russians on the basis of inheritance cases. According to these calculations, the death toll is about 165 thousand.

Russia does not officially disclose its losses. Moscow last called the number of killed in September 2022 – then declared 5937 dead.

Kyiv also did not voice losses for a long time, stating that the data would be disclosed after the war. At the same time, on February 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with NBC News that since February 2022, Ukraine lost more than 46,000 soldiers and about 380,000 in the war.
