Former world champion in super heavy weight, British Anthony Joshua (29–4, 26 KOs) is going to end his boxing career after a tragedy in Nigeria.

The boxer was involved in an accident last Monday when his car collided with a truck on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Makun area. Joshua escaped with minor injuries, but his close friends and teammates, Sina Gami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, died at the scene.

Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola, has revealed that the Brit is set to retire from professional sports and hang up his gloves.

“The main thing here is that he finished his boxing career and will no longer enter the ring. This makes us happy because every time he fights, we feel strong emotions and worry for him.

Every time he gets knocked down, our hearts drop out of our chests. All these emotional experiences during his fights are too much trauma for us too. Now that he said he was leaving to the loudest ovation, we are happy.”

When asked by a reporter if Joshua had informed his family of his decision, Adedamola said: “Yes.”

Joshua could have died in a terrible car accident, but one detail saved the boxer's life
