According to a UNIAN correspondent, Nauseeda told reporters before the EU leaders summit in Brussels.
“I think that productively set an ambitious political goal. For example, to see Ukraine a member in the European Union since January 1, 2030. It is difficult, but at the same time, it motivates. And I hope we will be able to accelerate our efforts to avoid any misunderstanding, because it is not productive.”
At the same time, he was asked how he sees the opportunity to convince Hungary not to block sanctions and other issues regarding Ukraine.
Nauseda hopes that all countries can do it. “And we will be able to start a technical process of negotiations … I hope that the European commission has tools,” Nauseda said.
He added that every time these difficulties are repeated because of Hungary’s position, but in the end somehow manages to move on.
“It is likely that we will be successful this time again. Of course, one country cannot abuse the consensus tool,” Nauseda said.
Also, President of Lithuania noted that this is not good when a selective approach to Ukraine and Moldova seeking EU membership.
“Unfortunately because of certain bilateral obstacles – you know what I’m talking about – Ukraine cannot open the first cluster of negotiations [про вступ]. I think we have to open this first block [переговорів про засадничі принципи – УНІАН] As soon as possible and, of course, by the end of the year we have to open all 6 clusters, ” – emphasized Nauseda.
He noted separately that the European Union should impose a 18th package of sanctions against Russia because the Russian Federation imitates negotiations.
“In my opinion, this package is good, strong, sufficient, but of course it would be good to avoid any exceptions and softening of this package,” Nauseda stressed.
Ukraine’s accession to the EU is the latest newsAccording to UNIAN, the President of the European Commission Ursula von Der Lyen stressed that the process of acquiring membership in the EU always consistently takes into account the achievements and merits. In particular, certain conditions must be fulfilled and reforms.
According to her, the EU does not set clear dates for the future admission, but if Ukrainians continue to reform the country with constant speed and quality, then it is possible that the completion of preparation for entry will happen earlier than in 2030.
