NovaPay innovation director Oleksiy Ruban told NV Business about the results of work after obtaining the NBU license, which allows issuing cards, opening accounts and issuing loans. But the fintech startup plans to become a bank.

The war in Ukraine gave a powerful impetus to the development of online business and related services. And the problems of customers with access to financial services in the front-line areas led to the appearance of a draft law on inclusive banks. Their goal is to simplify the provision of basic banking services in the most remote corners of Ukraine and, in particular, in regions with increased security risks.

Director General of Ukrposhta Ihor Smilyanskyi has been lobbying for the right for the state postal operator to provide banking services for several years. The goal of the head of Ukrposhta is close to being realized, the corresponding draft law passed the first reading in the Verkhovna Rada.

However, Ukrposhta is not the only one interested in the license of the future inclusive bank. NovaPay payment system of New Post was also interested in this opportunity.

In an interview with NV, NovaPay Business Innovation Director Oleksiy Ruban explained why the payment system changer became interested in the NBU initiative, how the emergence of financial inclusion banks will affect the market, the shortage of personnel and investments in its development.
