Despite the fact that modern cars are much more difficult to break into, the mechanic believes that many criminals try to steal various parts that are in vehicles. Most often, thieves put out catalytic converters, which are mostly melted down to gain access to the precious metals that are inside.

“Catalyst theft is on the rise. You might wonder why people steal these things, because they have precious metals inside them. You can melt them down to get them, and they cost money. [МодСль] number one on the list of stolen catalytic converters is the Ford F-series pickup truck. They have big catalytic converters, they’re easy to get under, and people steal them,” explained Scotty.

The publication reminded that the catalytic converter, which is installed on cars, is an effective means of reducing the amount of harmful gases that are emitted with exhaust gases. Despite the fact that it is expensive to manufacture, it can usually last up to 160 thousand kilometers.

However, due to the fact that they contain precious metals that break down harmful gases, this component is often stolen by criminals.

According to an automotive expert, pick-up trucks are most often the objects of theft, because the catalytic converters installed in them are large.

At the same time, Scotty emphasized that many hybrid models, including Toyota Prius and Honda Accord, are victims of such thefts.

“Another car known for catalytic converter theft is the Toyota Prius, a completely different type of vehicle. They’re low, but have huge catalytic converters that actually give thieves more money than those on Fords. Honda Accord and CR -V are also popular among catalyst hijackers,” he noted.

To protect your car from catalytic converter theft, the mechanic advises drivers to leave their cars parked in well-lit or densely populated areas where criminals can be easily spotted.

“Now they produce all kinds of shields that can be installed to make it harder to steal the catalyst, but here is my advice: “Don’t forget about the alarm system. Make sure your car alarm is on and always park it where other people are. And if you see people who look like they’re removing catalytic converters, walking around with them and putting them in another car, write down their license number and call the police,” Scotty advises.

Other tips from automotive expertsEarlier, the expert told how to start a car with a discharged battery. According to Scotty Kilmer, if the car’s battery is dead, the driver will likely have to start the engine by plugging it into a good vehicle’s battery to get power.

It also became known how to turn the steering wheel correctly in various situations. It is noted that many drivers make common mistakes that can lead to road accidents and car breakdowns.
