Details: Director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service Serhiy Naryshkin noted that the Kremlin is allegedly ready for negotiations, but categorically rejected any “freezing” of the front line or the creation of demilitarized zones. According to him, the only way to achieve peace is to “eliminate” the reasons that “forced” Russia to launch a full-scale invasion.

Literally: “Such rhetoric shows that Moscow continues to insist on an uncompromising surrender of Ukraine. The Kremlin has also repeatedly demanded control over all the territories of the four illegally annexed regions, including those currently under Ukrainian control.”

Details: According to analytical forecasts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russian command may be planning a new offensive on the southeastern part of the Dnipropetrovsk region. This region is not included in the illegally annexed territories, but its capture could support Russia’s long-standing goal of full occupation of Donetsk region.

ISW also recently predicted that the Russian military command is likely planning to push into the far southeastern part of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast to achieve Russia’s long-standing goal of capturing all of Donetsk Oblast.

Key findings:

  • Russian officials continue to demonstrate that the Kremlin is eager to seize more territory in Ukraine than it currently holds and is unwilling to compromise or engage in fair negotiations, regardless of who mediates such negotiations.
  • The pace of Russian military advances since the fall of 2024 has noticeably accelerated compared to advances in 2023 and the rest of 2024, but recent Western media reports comparing recent Russian advances to those at the start of a full-scale invasion continue to distort the gradualness and tactical nature of recent advances of Russia
  • US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby confirmed Ukraine’s use of US-provided ATACMS missiles against Russia amid Russia’s official confirmation of recent Ukrainian ATACMS strikes.
  • Russian forces launched a record number of drones against Ukraine on the night of November 25-26, as Russia continues to increase its use of decoy drones in complex strikes against Ukrainian energy infrastructure to disable Ukrainian air defense systems.
  • Russian state media reported that the Russian Ministry of Defense replaced the former commander of the Southern Military District and the Southern Army Group, Colonel General Gennady Anashkin, with the acting commander of the Eastern Military District, Lieutenant General Oleksandr Sanchyk.
  • Russian troops continue to execute Ukrainian prisoners of war amid a recent spate of Russian war crimes.
  • The Russian State Duma is preparing legal mechanisms to exclude the Taliban from the official list of banned terrorist organizations approved by the Russian government.
  • Ukrainian troops have recently recovered lost positions near Kreminna, and Russian troops have recently advanced near Pokrovsk, Kurakhov, and Velika Novosilka.
  • Russia’s Voenkor complained on November 25 that Russian forces often use artillery without coordination between different Russian units, highlighting significant communication problems between armored vehicles and infantry.
  • The Russian authorities continue to encourage Russians to perform military service on the territory of Ukraine, offering one-time payments, probably in order to avoid another partial forced conscription.
