Isw: Russia deliberately tests the limits of NATO’s opportunities by enhancing its efforts

Russia increases its efforts to test the defense capabilities and determination of NATO, violating the airspace of the Alliance. This is stated in the report of the American Institute for War Study (ISW). Analysts are reminded that on September 19, the Polish Border Service reported that two Russian fighters flew at a low altitude above the Polish oil and gas drill platform Lotos Petrobaltic in the Baltic Sea, which is a direct violation of the platform safety zone. It is noted that the Petrobaltic platform is the only sea oil platform of Poland and is located in its exclusive economic zone. It remains unclear whether the invasion of Russian aircraft near the Petrobaltic platform occurred during the departure of September 19, during which three Russian Mig-31 Russian fighters violated Estonia’s airspace, whether it was a separate incident. On September 19, the Ministry of Defense of Russia stated that the Russian aircraft did not violate the air space of Estonia and that three Russian planes were performing a “planned flight” from the Karelia airfield to an indefinite airfield in the Kaliningrad region in accordance with international law. ISW continues to estimate that Russia deliberately tests the limits of NATO capabilities, carrying out various air invasions in order to collect data on the response of the Alliance and political will that Russia can then apply in potential conflicts against NATO.”, – WRITE: www.radiosvoboda.org
