Israel has told the US it is planning a “limited ground operation” in Lebanon that could begin soon. This was reported by The Washington Post on September 30, citing an American official.

According to the publication’s interlocutor, the planned operation “will be less large-scale” than the war with Hezbollah in 2006. It will focus on destroying the group’s infrastructure along the border to eliminate the threat to residents of Israel’s border regions.

Another US official said Israel was ready to launch a “limited ground invasion” in southern Lebanon “in the near future”.

Sources told ABC News that the Israeli military “has already begun or will soon begin” small operations in the Lebanese border areas to destroy Hezbollah positions.

On September 17 and 18, a series of explosions occurred in Lebanon on pagers and walkie-talkies that Hezbollah uses for operational communication. Hezbollah blamed Israel for organizing the attack, which has not claimed responsibility for the operation.

On the evening of September 27, the Israel Defense Forces carried out an airstrike on the headquarters of Hezbollah in the southern suburb of Beirut, Dahiya, and then on several other facilities in the same area. As a result of the strike, the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, was killed.
