Against this background, Ukrainian political scientist Andriy Miselyuk drew attention to the potentially dangerous situation: despite the current sanctions, Iranian goods are allegedly continue to get into Ukraine. According to the expert, this creates the risk of indirect financing of drone production.
According to Miselyuk, on May 27, 2023, the NSDC introduced fifty -year restrictions on trade operations with Iran. The prohibition applies to military goods, dual use, transit, financial obligations. The control over compliance with the sanctions is entrusted to the Cabinet of Ministers, the SBU, the external intelligence service and other state bodies.
However, as the political scientist notes, Iranian goods-in particular nuts and dried fruits-can enter the Ukrainian market through intermediary countries, including Turkey, UAE, Azerbaijan or Egypt, and after crossing the border, these goods can “lose” their origin and already under the guise, “Turkish”.
The expert believes that this situation indicates insufficient control and that sanctions can be due to parallel imports. According to Miselyuk, part of the profit from the sale of these products may potentially at the disposal of the Iranian defense complex.
The political scientist also recalled that in May 2025, two years since the imposition of sanctions, and the responsible authorities must evaluate their effectiveness. In his opinion, in the conditions of a full -scale war, this is not enough: “The authorities should not only report, but strengthen the mechanisms of control and eliminate the circuits of bypass,” he emphasizes.
Miseluk is also quoted by the First Vice Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko, who, after imposing sanctions, said: “Well, we will strengthen our arguments.” According to the political scientist, it is time to act in full force: “Because now, more than ever, it is evident that trade with Iran is the support of the enemy.”
