Ukrainian military ecologists have received modern portable spectrometers to identify hazardous substances that will help evaluate the degree of danger of soil contaminated with explosive residues of war.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine informs about it on February 3.

The equipment was transferred as part of international assistance with the support of the UN Development Program (UNDP) and the Sweden Government.

The official ceremony was held in Kyiv with the participation of the first secretary of the Kingdom of Sweden in Ukraine Niels Dalkvis, who handed over equipment to the head of the Center for Perfection of Mine Activity and Environmental Safety to Colonel Oleg Ryabchuk.

Now in the arsenal of Ukrainian military ecologists there is a mass spectrometer MX908 and an analyzer for identification of substances Roman Serstech ARX.

MX908 is a multi-purpose portable mass spectrometer for the detection and identification of chemicals in real time, which will be used to detect chemicals and explosives.

“This device by high-pressure mass spectrometry (HPMS) detects and identifies the connection at the level of residues with exceptional sensitivity and selectivity,” the statement said.

The Roman Serstech ARX analyzer is designed on a modern software platform and Quick Scan scanning mode allows you to get accurate results for military and industrial explosive devices, combat toxic substances and toxic materials. His library has more than 2,200 dangerous substances.

“Thanks to these devices, we will be able to accurately identify chemical threats in the territories under study, and therefore – to plan measures to reduce the negative impact on the environment and ensure environmental safety,” said the Head of the Department of Environmental Safety Colonel Yuri Sytnik.

Colonel Valery Weber thanked the Deputy Head of the Main Department of Mine Activities, Civil Protection and Environmental Security for the representatives of UNDP and Sweden for the sustainable support of Ukraine in its opposition to the Russian aggressor and for technical assistance in the study of territories contaminated with dangerous residues of war.

As reported by the Armyinform, during January 2025, units for the demining of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine cleared 8 755 hectares of de -cooked territories of explosive objects.
