According to the investigation, two 19-year-old residents of Dnipropetrovsk region were looking for “easy money” through Telegram. They agreed to perform a “special task” for which they were promised 3 thousand US dollars.
On the instructions of the “customer”, the suspects were supposed to detonate explosives in a rented apartment in Zhytomyr when the police team summoned by them arrived there.
On January 19, 2025, the perpetrators came to the regional center, took a suitcase and a package with explosives from a designated place and installed it in an apartment in the city center.
Two explosive devices were disguised as a children’s soft toy and a portable battery box. They were placed near the entrance door and in the room, and left the apartment.
In order to record the terrorist attack, the mobile phone was set in video surveillance mode, and they had to inform their “customer” about the work done.
Law enforcement officers warned of a terrorist attack, and the men were detained. Both suspects were taken into custody without bail.
Earlier, the Security Service and law enforcement officers exposed two mercenaries who tried to sabotage the railway. They were detained within a day after committing the crime.
