The Security Service of Ukraine detained a “mole” of Russian intelligence in one of the military commissars of the Volyn region. The GRU tracked him down through his relatives in Russia.

This is reported by the SBU.

“Military counter-intelligence of the Security Service with the assistance of the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detained a Russian agent who was preparing a new series of Russian airstrikes in Volyn,” the message reads.

The traitor turned out to be a 30-year-old military man serving in the security unit of the local TCC. According to the case file, he was remotely recruited by a staff member of the Russian military intelligence (better known as the GRU).

“He came to the attention of the occupiers through his relatives in Russia, with whom he maintained contact and shared anti-Ukrainian views,” the SBU said.

The man tried to establish and hand over to the aggressor the locations of the bases of units of the Armed Forces, the Security Service and the National Police.

“To fulfill this task, the agent drove around the area in a company car under the guise of business trips and recorded the location of military facilities. “He also tried to detect radar stations and anti-aircraft missile systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to carry out enemy attacks “bypassing” Ukrainian air defense,” the agency said.

The agent sent the received information to his Russian curator through an anonymous chat in the messenger. The perpetrator is now in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
