On the eve of the winter holidays in 2025, the State Production and Consumer Service found 24,000 children’s toys that do not meet technical regulations and may pose a threat to children’s health.
This is stated in statement The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection (State Consumer Protection Service).
According to the agency, some unsuitable toys can cause toxic reactions and injuries in a child. Inspectors recorded 55 types of dangerous products, of which 28 are toys for children. “Laboratory studies have confirmed the risks: allergic reactions, poisoning, chronic toxic effects due to excess content of dangerous chemicals and inconsistency of structural elements,” says the message of the State Production and Consumer Service.
Specialists of the department gave advice to parents on the safe choice of toys:
▪️ Check the labeling in Ukrainian, the importer or manufacturer and the sign of compliance with technical regulations;
▪️ Absence of sharp chemical smell, reliability of attachment of parts and absence of sharp elements;
▪️ Avoid shopping at spontaneous markets or from sellers without documents;
▪️ Check whether the toy does not contain small parts that are dangerous for children;
▪️ Availability of a compartment for batteries protected by a screw;
▪️ Compliance of the noise level with the established standards.
You can also pre-check toys on the “Attention” portal, where dangerous and withdrawn goods are published. “Specialists of the State Production and Consumer Service work every day to ensure that parents are confident in the safety and quality of children’s gifts. Our main task is to timely identify and remove products that may pose a risk to children’s health,” said Andrii Kreitor, deputy head of the department.
Earlier, the Commission of the State Production and Consumer Service found violations of the actions of department officials during the inspection of Nova Poshta, as a result of which the company was fined 325.8 million hryvnias. The head of the State Consumer Service, Vladyslava Magaletska, hopes that the fine will be canceled now.
