In Transcarpathia, 17 settlements may be left without gas due to sudden melting of snow – OVA

“Due to the sudden melting of the snow and the rise of the water level in the Tisza near the village of Getynya in Beregivu district, the flood washed away the support of the gas pipeline. In the Transcarpathian region, 17 settlements are at risk of being without gas supply, the regional military administration reported.

“Due to the sudden melting of the snow and the rise of the water level in the Tisza near the village of Getynya in Beregivu district, the flood washed away the support of the gas pipeline. The structure is significantly tilted, which endangers stable gas supply for almost 5,800 subscribers in 17 settlements: Getinya, Sasovo, Dyakovo, Petrovo, Bobove, Chepa, Chornotysovo, Dyula, Kholmovets, Divichne, Zatisivka, Velyka Palady, Zabolottya, Bratovo, Okli, Okli Ged and Klynove,” the message reads.

OVA said that as part of emergency measures, they plan to fix the pipe and buy time for repairs.

“Professional services are already arranging an embankment across the Tisza so that special equipment can reach the support. In parallel, experts are working on several engineering solutions: from the creation of a temporary bridge to the complex drilling of a new line under the river bed. Since these options require significant resources and time, experts are working on them at the same time,” the OVA noted.

Populations under threat will have uninterrupted power supply: shutdown schedules for them will not be applied during the work period, the message says.

“For the network to withstand peak loads, Oblenergo is increasing the number of emergency teams. Residents are advised, if possible, to prepare for alternative furnace heating, the use of liquefied gas for household needs. Local authorities and the State Emergency Service are deploying additional points of invincibility and heating,” the OVA reported.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian and Western forecasters predict a new cold wave approaching from the northeast. According to them, it will be powerful, but short-lived. Already next Thursday, February 5, the average daily temperature may be the same or higher than on Friday, January 30.
