Details: According to a senior official of the US Ministry of Defense, the Biden administration plans to announce additional aid to Ukraine by the end of the year. At the same time, she added, it would be difficult to accelerate the deployment of what is left to the battlefield before the start of the Trump administration in January 2025.

The official emphasized that the Biden administration will use part of the $5.6 billion that remains at the president’s disposal, which will allow the transfer of Pentagon stocks to Ukraine instead of waiting months or years that defense contractors may need to manufacture weapons under new contracts.

“We will continue to pass relief packages until the end of this administration’s term. But $5.6 billion is a significant amount of authority, so I certainly anticipate that there may be some authority left that will carry over to the next administration and be available for use,” she said. .

She also added that the Biden administration is likely to use all $1.2 billion (USAI) remaining under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which allows Kyiv to purchase goods directly from the defense industry.

The publication emphasizes that the big question now is whether “the administration of the newly elected American president, Donald Trump, will use this money to help Ukraine.”

Prehistory:

  • The WSJ newspaper wrote that the Biden administration will not have time to send military aid to Ukraine for all the funds approved by Congress before the end of its term of office in January 2025, and part of the relevant powers will pass to Donald Trump’s team.
  • The Pentagon says that they have reached the limit of weapons that they can send to Ukraine every month without harming their own combat capability, and they are also facing logistical problems in delivery.
  • Earlier, it was reported that Biden asked Congress to allocate another $24 billion for military aid to Ukraine and to replenish the stocks of American weapons that were transferred to Kyiv. But the incoming Republican-dominated Congress is cool with the request.
  • At the same time, the spokesman of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, said that the current American authorities believe that Ukraine will have enough military aid to fight until the end of 2025, which the States have already provided or are planning to provide until the end of Joe Biden’s term.
