The Southern District Military Court in the Russian Rostov-on-Don condemned the captive Ukrainian military Andrei Sopuliak to 19 years of a colony of strict regime. According to August 14, the mediaton edition, citing the court press service, Sopuliak was accused of participating in the terrorist community and training for terrorist activity.

A 30-year-old native of Ivano-Frankivsk region concluded a contract with the National Guard of Ukraine in 2016 and was sent to the Azov Brigade. He served as an operator of the air intelligence unit, and on May 20, 2022 he was captured in Mariupol.

Until September 2022, Sopuliak was in a former colony in Olenivka in the occupied territory of Donetsk region, where since the beginning of the war the camp for prisoners was erected, from there he was transferred to a pre-trial detention center in Taganrog of Rostov region.

Only on March 11, 2025, the sapulayak was delayed in a criminal case and sent it first to the detention center of temporary detention, and after the election of a precaution-to the pre-trial detention center-1 Rostov-on-Don. In what status the Ukrainian prisoner was, it is unclear. Already in April, his case was transferred to court.

At a meeting on July 28, during the interrogation, Sopuliak, among other things, explained that he did not participate in “punitive operations” in the Donbass and did not intimidate the civilian population. He stressed that he did not study “terrorist activity”, but took place a regular army course of a young soldier.

Asked why some of his testimonies in court diverge with the testimonies that the investigation suggested, Sopuliak suggested that the investigator had inaccurately recorded his words. The judge then decided to call the FSB investigator interrogation.

Two days later, the Sopulak was drawn to Taganrog, and at the next meeting on August 7, the court declared him a sentence. Sopuliak listened to him on a video conferencing from a pre -trial detention center in Taganrosis. The investigator did not appear at the meeting – because of a “long business trip”.
