The State Border Service of Ukraine (SPSU) announced the detention of a father and son in the Lviv region who were trying to cross to Poland pack of cigarettes without excise tax stamps, using three aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
This was reported by the press service of the DPSU.
The incident happened near the city of Mostyska, kilometers from the state border. The men equipped a hiding place where they kept cigarettes and operated drones. The border guards discovered that two local residents had raised two drones with cargo into the air, and the third was being prepared for takeoff.
The perpetrators tried to escape, leaving the car and equipment behind. The son was detained immediately, and the father was found with the help of a drone with night vision.
Three aircraft were seized on the spot, batteries for UAVs, a laptop, a control panel, flash drives with GPS routes and other equipment used to organize the crime.
The regional administration of the Bureau of Economic Security opened a criminal case against this incident.
Earlier in Transcarpathia, border guards discovered and detained a multi-purpose helicopter “Aérospatiale Alouette III” worth more than 150 thousand dollars. It was used by smugglers.
Earlier, near the border with Moldova, 35 kilometers away, border guards exposed a gang of smugglers. The criminals were preparing an airplane unfit for flight.
