This was announced by the Deputy Head of the National Police Andriy Nebitov.
“In the Kyiv region among the green fields and forests, an illegal landfill worked. No environmental standards. No safety. Only a cynical scheme of earnings on poisoning of land, water and air. And all this is under the “roof” of officials of one of the local communities.
Without ventilation, methane accumulates in such landfills. During the heat, this can lead to large -scale fires. Plastic, chemicals, paints, rubber – all this with fire turns into a toxic cloud that poisons everything around. This is how large environmental tragedies begin, ”the message reads.
Thanks to the coordinated actions of criminal police operatives, NPU investigators and the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor’s Office, the OGP managed to expose three officials who organized this criminal scheme. They have already informed about suspicion.
“I understand that it is not the only spontaneous or illegal landfill and, for sure, not the last citizens who have violated the law. But, I hope that although it will be prevention and officials will not allow such a situation that they do not become the following suspects, ”Nepbitov said.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the embankments have caused pollution of the surrounding lands, in particular, private and communal property. The total area of contaminated areas is about 1 hectare. According to preliminary estimates, the amount of losses exceeds 600 thousand UAH.
This year, police reported suspicion of 970 criminal proceedings for committing crimes against the environment, 42 organized criminal groups that committed 183 crimes against the environment were exposed and terminated, Nebitov explained.
Earlier it was reported that Russian invaders are going to create 9 landfills in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions for waste from three regions of the Russian Federation.
