In the Dnipropetrovsk region, 135 miners were trapped underground after the accident. They were all rescued, the accident was eliminated.
This is reported by Telegram of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, the accident occurred at one of the stations in the underground workings of a mine of one of the mining enterprises in the region. As a result, 135 miners were trapped at a depth of more than 1,300 meters.
“Thanks to the joint work of mine rescuers, specialists of the enterprise and other divisions of the State Emergency Service, the accident was eliminated. The rescue work has been completed. All 135 miners returned home safe and sound,” the message reads.
Earlier it was reported that the coking coal mine near Pokrovsk had stopped working due to the approach of Russian troops. Ukrainian metallurgy cannot work without coke.
In 2024, the steelworkers’ union said that potential mine closures could cause steel production to fall to 2-3 million tonnes in 2025 from 7.6 million in 2024. Producers have said they hope to find alternative sources of coal if the Pokrovsk mine is captured by Russian forces. However, imports will inevitably be needed, which will lead to rising costs.
