In the Czech Republic, interest in the situation in Ukraine is decreasing – in the last quarter of 2024, 43% of Czechs were interested in the development of the situation in Ukraine, which is 14% less than at the beginning of the year and is the lowest since the beginning of the open Russian military intervention in February 2022. This is evidenced by the survey data of the Czech Public Opinion Research Center (CVVM).

Compared to the historical high in the spring of 2022, when 78% of Czechs were interested – 33% “definitely interested” and 45% “rather interested”, the current interest in the development of the situation in Ukraine has decreased – to 13% and 30%, respectively.

At the same time, 73% of respondents consider the situation in Ukraine a threat to world peace, 71% to European security, and 61% consider it a threat to the security of the Czech Republic.

36% of Czech citizens agree with the government’s steps to support Ukraine, and 58% disagree – 32% of Czech citizens believe that the Czech government supports Ukraine adequately, only a small part of respondents said that it supports it too little (4%), almost 58 % consider support excessive.

A significant majority of citizens agree with the diplomatic pressure of the international community on Russia (73%), less than half agree with the complete political and economic isolation of Russia (49%), and 45% approve of financial aid and support the provision of military equipment to Ukraine – 42%. On the other hand, only slightly more than a tenth (11%) of the Czech public would support sending soldiers to fight.

In a survey conducted from mid-September to the end of November 2024, the Center for Public Opinion Research (CVVM) asked a number of questions about the war in Ukraine. The study found out whether people are interested in the development of the situation in Ukraine and whether they consider it a threat to the security of the Czech Republic, Europe and peace in the world, how citizens feel about the government’s steps in support of Ukraine and how they see the possible measures of the international community.
