In Sumy region, the bodies of two people were probably killed through the shelling of the Russian Federation – the prosecutor’s office

The bodies of a man and his mother were found in a border community in Sumy Oblast, the regional prosecutor’s office reported. According to the report, an investigation has been launched into the fact of the commission of war crimes that caused the death of people.

“According to the investigation, on January 26, 2025, law enforcement officers discovered the bodies of a 62-year-old man and his 86-year-old mother, who were preparing to evacuate on December 9, 2024, in the village of Ponomarenka of the Velikopysarov community of the Okhtyr district. Since then, they have not been in touch. According to preliminary data, people died as a result of enemy shelling,” the message reads.

The Russian military regularly attacks Ukrainian regions with various types of weapons – attack UAVs, rockets, anti-aircraft missiles, and anti-aircraft missiles.

The leadership of Russia denies that the Russian army during a full-scale war inflicts targeted strikes on the civilian infrastructure of the cities and villages of Ukraine, killing the civilian population and destroying hospitals, schools, kindergartens, energy and water supply facilities.

The Ukrainian authorities and international organizations qualify these strikes as war crimes by the Russian Federation and emphasize that they are purposeful in nature.
