In Sumy, Sumy law enforcement officers detained a 42-year-old local resident who tried to steal a metal statue from the Eternal Glory Memorial on Gerasym Kondratiev Street. The indictment against the man was sent to the court for further consideration.

The incident occurred when the attacker carved the statue with tools and tried to take it out of the memorial area on a cart.
The police received a report of an attempted theft, and an investigative team went to the scene, which, according to an eyewitness, quickly established the identity of the criminal.
The law enforcement officers stopped the man’s criminal actions and seized the monument, cutting tools and other physical evidence from him.
Investigators under the procedural guidance of the prosecutor’s office notified the perpetrator of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which refers to desecration of a grave. The indictment has already been sent to the court for further consideration.
