Willingness to support Ukraine “until victory” has sharply decreased in Western Europe at a critical time for Kyiv.

Details: The poll found that the public’s willingness to support Ukraine to victory – even if it means continuing the war – has fallen sharply in all seven countries over the past 12 months.

The poll showed that willingness to support Ukraine to defeat Russia remains high in Sweden (50%) and Denmark (40%), and in Great Britain – 36%, but these levels have decreased by 14 points compared to January figures of 57%, 51% and 50%.

Over the same period, the percentage favoring a negotiated peace rose to 55% from 45% in Italy, 46% (38%) in Spain, 43% (35%) in France and 45% (38%) in Germany, which was accompanied by a corresponding drop in readiness to support Ukraine until its victory.

It was not clear whether this change reflected waning interest or growing fatigue. In France, Germany and Sweden, the share of those who wish Ukraine to win – and cheer for its victory – has remained stable since the beginning of 2023, although it has decreased in other countries.

We will remind, more than half of the citizens of Poland supported the opinion for the first timethat the war in Ukraine must be ended, even if it has to give up part of its territory or independence.

According to the November survey, the vast majority of EU citizens continue to support the purchase and supply of military equipment for Ukraine.
