They have 20 days to leave Portugal voluntarily or face deportation.
Some of the Belarusians said that they left Belarus as early as 2020 because of their participation in protests against the Lukashenka regime and fear arrest and persecution in case of deportation.
“I published many posts on social networks in support of Ukraine and against Lukashenka’s dictatorship. We can be arrested just for liking a post. And I posted,” said a Belarusian woman named Tetyana.
AIMA, when asked by SIC Notícias, said that any person with temporary protection status, whether an adult or a minor, can obtain a voluntary departure order.
The publication learned of at least one case where Portugal canceled temporary protection for a child. A 10-year-old girl, who was born in Russia to Ukrainian parents, recently had her temporary protection status revoked.
“They (AIMA. – Ed.) believe that the child can return to his country of origin, since there is no conflict there,” family lawyer Daniela Castro told SIC Notícias.
We will remind: Currently, the European Union has extended the Directive on temporary protection for Ukrainians until March 4, 2027.
Certain EU states have also granted such status to foreigners who left Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, but are gradually canceling it.
