The share of people working or looking for work among Ukrainians in Poland this year is 78% and is higher than among Polish citizens. This is evidenced by the results of a study by the National Bank of Poland, Ukrinform reports with reference to the EWL Migration Platform. It is noted that work is the main source of income for Ukrainians in Poland, as well as a factor contributing to their long-term stay in the country. About half of the respondents (both pre-war migrants and war refugees) state that this is an opportunity to support themselves and their families. Another reason to stay in Poland is the opportunity to find a job that brings satisfaction. The level of employment of Ukrainians in Poland is increasing thanks to the employment of refugees who arrived in the country after 2022. On the other hand, unemployment among refugees is generally higher than in the Polish economy.Advertisement: The study also states that 19% of war migrants are unemployed, as “a large proportion of refugee women who care for children are looking for part-time work working day, which is a problem given the low level of use of part-time contracts in the Polish economy.” Advertisement: “Poland is a country where the percentage of employment of Ukrainian refugees is higher compared to other European countries. And despite the fact that Polish employers still experience a shortage of personnel for vacancies that were previously filled by Ukrainian men, the contribution of refugees to the development of the Polish economy last year was approximately 1% of GDP,” says the recruitment director Maryana Semenyuk of the EWL migration platform. However, the percentage of Ukrainian citizens who declare their intention to settle in Poland for permanent residence is not increasing: 50% of pre-war migrants and 20% of refugees express such an intention. On the other hand, a study by the National Bank of Poland states that more and more citizens of Ukraine have not yet decided on their plans for the future. Compared to previous studies, the percentage of “hard to say” answers regarding living plans in Poland has increased – both among pre-war migrants (from 36% to 39% in 2023) and among refugees (from 48% to 56% in 2023). The housing situation of pre-war migrants and refugees is gradually improving, which indicates the integration of refugees. Just over 70% of migrants from both groups rent housing. On the other hand, the percentage of Ukrainians who have their own apartment is much higher among pre-war immigrants. Migrants continue to support their loved ones in Ukraine. In particular, 40% transfer funds, and 49% provide financial assistance, primarily to family members. And this trend is growing. In the gender structure of Ukrainians in Poland, women predominate – approximately 67%. The study was conducted among migrants from Ukraine in the period from May to July 2024. We will remind: the number of Ukrainians in Poland who work legally and are on the insurance register has increased to 779,300 people as of the end of October 2024.
