In Odesa, traffic on the Odesa-Reni highway, which was restricted due to Russian strikes on the bridge in the area of Mayaki village, has been restored, the deputy chief of the patrol police department, Oleksiy Biloshitskyi, said.

“Traffic restrictions in both directions on the highway M-15 Odesa – Reni (in the city of Bucharest) within the Mayaki settlement have been lifted. Traffic has been restored,” Biloshitskyi wrote on the Telegram channel on December 21.

The police announced the traffic restrictions on December 19.

On the evening of December 18, Russian forces attacked the bridge over the Dniester near Mayakiv (on the M-15 Odesa-Reni highway), which is the key route between Odesa and Moldova. As a result, a woman died and her three children were injured.

The Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba reported on December 20 that there were more than 20 Russian attacks on the bridge over the Dniester in the village of Mayaki, which also passes through the territory of Moldova in the Palanka region.

The Ukrainian authorities temporarily closed the bridge – the only major land artery connecting Odessa with the part of Odesa region located on the right bank of the Dniester (southern Bessarabia), as well as the shortest route to Chisinau.

According to Kuleba, a pontoon bridge was deployed on the spot, on which reverse traffic is carried out. The government also noted that they are preparing an alternative route, which they plan to deploy within a week.

The Agency for Reconstruction stated that the bridge in Mayaki on the M-15 highway in Odesa region was subjected to repeated Russian strikes, which intensified in recent days.

“It is currently impossible to say exactly about the timing of the restoration of traffic. After all, due to the security situation, restoration work is not being carried out there. The examination and assessment of the condition of the structures is ongoing,” the agency reported on December 19.
