The prosecutor demanded that Buyanova be imprisoned for six years. The doctor herself and her lawyers insisted on her innocence.
“The sentence is incredibly cruel. We did not expect this. It is unexpectedly harsh, even for me,” Buyanova’s lawyer Oskar Cherdzhiev is quoted as saying by “Mediazon”.
A criminal case against 68-year-old Buyanova, who worked in one of the Moscow polyclinics, was initiated after a female visitor complained in February 2024.
Anastasia Akinshina, the widow of a participant in the Russian-Ukrainian war, complained about the pediatrician. She claimed that during the appointment she told the doctor that her seven-year-old son was missing his dead father. In response, Akinshina said, Buyanova called her husband “a legitimate target of Ukraine.” Buyanova herself claimed that she did not say this.
The criminal case against Buyanova was opened at the request of the head of the Investigative Committee Oleksandr Bastrykin. At first, Buyanova was given a preventive measure in the form of a ban on certain actions, but then she was sent to the SIZO. As the official news agency “RIA Novosti” reported, the preventive measure was changed after Buyanova was detained near the Russian border.
