In Mariupol, the Starokman reservoir almost dried up

In the temporarily occupied Mariupol, the Starokman reservoir was almost completely shallow, which is the only source of water supply to the city. Due to water shortages, there is a threat of fish loss, the destruction of water ecosystems and an increase in the risk of outbreaks of infections, Mariupol City Council reported. “Most of the reservoir is just dry.

There is very little water. Even the invaders recognize that, in addition to water shortages, the city is waiting for the loss of fish and aquatic ecosystems, as well as the risk of outbreaks of infections is increasing, ”the City Council said.

The approximate debit of the reservoir is 35 thousand cubic meters per day, while the city requires 150 thousand cubic meters. Accelerated ground can lead to complete termination of water supply.

Before the Russian occupation, Mariupol received water from two sources – the Siverskyi Donets and the Reserve Starokhrim Roman reservoir. After the Siverskyi Donets was damaged, the city switched only to the reserve water supply from the reservoir during the invasion.

According to the pre -war investment project for the modernization of the water supply and sewerage system, which was implemented with the support of the French Government, the new filter station was to be put into operation in 2023-2024. However, due to occupation, the implementation of the project became impossible.

Prolonged heat and lack of precipitation caused a serious blow to agriculture of Mykolaiv region – this year the agrarians lost almost the entire corn harvest and half of the sunflower.
