“Let the guns fall silent in long-suffering Ukraine! Let there be enough courage to open the door for negotiations and gestures of dialogue and meeting in order to achieve a just and lasting peace,” said Pope Francis.
“Let the guns in the Middle East fall silent! Looking intently at the Bethlehem cradle, I direct my thoughts to the Christian communities in Palestine and Israel, especially to the dear community in Gaza, where there is a very difficult humanitarian situation. Let the fire cease, the hostages be released and the help to a population exhausted by hunger and war.I am also close to the Christian community of Lebanon, primarily in the south, as and with the Christian community in Syria in this very delicate period. Let the doors of dialogue and peace be opened in the entire conflict-torn region. I would also like to mention the Libyan people at this point, encouraging them to find solutions that will enable national reconciliation,” the pontiff said.
Pope Francis delivered his Christmas message at noon on Christmas Day, December 25, from the loggia of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, after which he gave the solemn blessing “Urbi et Orbi” to all gathered in the square.
