Details

The finds were made in the cities of Mönchengladbach, Duisburg and Krefeld, as well as in the districts of Firzen, Heinsberg and Neuss, dpa reports.

The mass media estimates the value of the discovered batch of cocaine on the black market at more than 7 million euros. The batch of bananas in which the drug was found came from South America. The police and the prosecutor’s office of Mönchengladbach believe that this batch entered the supermarket chain by mistake. An investigation is underway.

It is not the first time that cocaine has been found in banana packages in Germany. A similar case happened in 2015 – also in a supermarket chain in the same federal state, as well as in neighboring Lower Saxony. Whether it is about the same retail network is not specified.
