The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia reported the detention of 16 people in Tbilisi on the morning of November 19 during the crackdown on a protest against the election results. By morning, the law enforcement officers dispersed the participants of the protest – Chavchavadze Avenue was completely occupied by police forces. A large number of policemen, special forces, robocops, and water cannons were mobilized on the territory.

On the morning of November 19, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia published a statement giving protesters 15 minutes to vacate the carriageway of the road where opposition representatives and citizens peacefully spent the second night.

Among those detained on Melikishvili Avenue is one of the operators of the Georgian television company.

The protests began after the official results of the elections, according to which the ruling party “Georgian Dream” won an absolute majority of seats in the parliament. The opposition, however, does not recognize these results, accusing the government of falsifications and anti-democratic policies.
