The undersea cable connecting Finland with Germany has been broken, the investigation into the reasons for the break continues.

About this informs Ilta-Sanomat.

The publication notes that a fault has been detected in the C-Lion1 cable running from Santagamina (Finland) to Rostock (Germany). As a result of the malfunction, communication connections passing through the sea cable are interrupted.

The underwater cable C-Lion1 is part of the network of the state-owned company Cinia, which is engaged in the construction of fiber optic connections. According to the company, the cable is broken. The reason is unknown. An investigation is currently underway.

“Customers have been informed and preparations for repairs have begun,” said the company’s general director, Ari-Yussi Knaapila.

The C-Lion1 cable was commissioned in 2016. Its length is about 1200 km. It passes next to the Russian Nord Stream gas pipeline.

It is noted that this is the only Finnish submarine cable that goes directly to Central Europe.

In addition, it is the only one that follows the same route as Russian gas pipelines. The distance between them is several hundred meters.

This Nord Stream route was chosen for the C-lion1 cable to facilitate installation work.
