In Engels, Russia, an oil depot is burning for the fourth day after a drone strike

In the city of Engels in the Saratov region of Russia, the oil depot of the “Krystal” plant has been burning for the fourth day, which was hit by Ukrainian drones on the night of January 14.

The governor of the region, Roman Busargin, said that the burning area “has decreased significantly”.

“Professional services and specialists continue to work on site and do everything necessary for liquidation,” he wrote.

The Armed Forces said that on the night of January 14, the Ukrainian military struck the infrastructure of the Engels-2 military airfield, where Tu-95MS and Tu-160 aircraft are based. According to their data, as a result of the strike, the tanks of the oil depot, where aviation fuel for bombers is stored, caught fire again. On the same day, the authorities of the Saratov region introduced a state of emergency at the inter-municipal level.

This is the second drone attack since the beginning of January 2024 on the oil depot of the “Krystal” plant, which caused a strong fire. Last time, the oil depot burned for six days. A day before the second strike by drones, Busargin said that firefighters eliminated open burning at the oil depot.
