The prosecutors of the Slobozhan District Prosecutor’s Office, by filing an appeal, obtained a guilty verdict against two residents of Dnipro. The court found them guilty of self-motivated murder, robbery, illegal possession of a vehicle and attempted destruction of property by arson.
The court sentenced one of the brothers to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. Taking into account that the other man had an unserved sentence for committing theft, he will spend 16.5 years behind bars.
It has been proven that in 2016, two men attacked a taxi driver. One of them hit the taxi driver numerous times on the head and body, as well as stabbed him in the neck, from which the victim died on the spot. After the murder, the brothers took the victim’s car, money and other property. To hide the traces of the crime, they hid the body in a forest lane, set the car on fire and left the scene.
In July 2022, the defendants were found guilty of the incriminated crime and sentenced to 13 and 15 years in prison. The prosecutors did not agree with the verdict of the court of first instance due to leniency and challenged it in the appellate procedure, as a result of which a new trial was held.
